Whichever The Way

Unbroken stems bend &
Shape-shifted by wind’s force.
Songs of redemption & longing
Stain flowing waters –
The river relentlessly running on.

Breaking winter’s grip
And cutting the ties that blind,
The heart cocooned in white light –
No judgements to be made,
The circling kite cries again.

When at last we breached the pass
So to find the peaks rolling on
Landscape and sky a seamless continuum
No linear notion could cut apart,
Here trees danced and rocks laughed out loud
As depth became height
And shadows dissolved into light.

Only the in-breath and out-breath
Keeps this reality in motion,

Only the in-breath and out-breath
Keeps turning the wheel of desire,

Only the in-breath and out-breath
Keeps fire cold and stillness woven,

Only the in-breath and out-breath
Keeps the sky from falling into the lake.

A sudden flurry of snow
Drifting on the breeze,

The first spring blossoms.
